10 reasons every believer should speak in tongues.

Here’s a top 10 list of reasons every Christian should speak with tongues: –

1. Tongues are the initial sign you have been filled (baptised) with the Holy Spirit.

2. Tongues are a prayer language in which your spirit is able to freely communicate to God.

3.  Tongues edify you and build up your spiritual strength.

4. Forbidding to speak in tongues could be a way of quenching the move of the Holy Spirit.

5. Speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives utterance takes faith and builds faith.

6. God can deliver a message to someone in a language unlearned via. your speaking in tongues in a public setting.

7. God can allow your tongues to become a message of edification to the church if interpreted.

8.  The Apostle Paul himself said he spoke and prayed in tongues often.

9. All of the early church (e.g. 120 disciples in upper room) spoke in tongues, it was normal.

10. Speaking in tongues as the spirit gives utterance can take your worship to new dimensions.

Conclusion:

It should be noted that the tongues I am speaking of here are those which are spoken under the anointing of the Holy Spirit and as the Spirit gives utterance and inspiration to speak i.e. I am not advocating just babbling gibberish that you make up yourself… it must be as the Spirit gives the utterance and it is something which must flow from within your innermost being (and not your head).

Speaking in tongues is NOT the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is the Holy Ghost. Perhaps tongues may manifest themselves when someone receives the Holy Ghost. So many people seek tongues and I think this hinders HIM.It becomes a distraction to truly allowing him to manifest Himself however He would like.

I say this after years and years of seeking tongues.I just dont have that gift but when I finally let go of the *sign* and started yeilding to the Spirit…I became so much more intimate with Him in prayer.

There are more than one kind of tongues….. Pentecost is caught up with……I think many are confused about this.

I have been Apostolic for 20 years and I have yet to find where in the Bible that tongues are mandatory. I again for years prayed for revelation and sought answers …..its just not in the Bible.

Love this church but it does have some issues.

Agreed tounges certainly is not the Holy Ghost, and agreed it is the infilling that must be sought not tongues. This means a seeker must seek God, not a sign. However, I still believe based on Acts 2:4, 10:44-48,19:1-15 and Mark 16:16-18 that tongues is the inital cry of the new born spirit filled believer and God will bestow this power on all who ask. However, everyone does not receieve the specific spritual gift of tongues mentioned in 1 Cor 12. Just as we all have faith, but do not all have the gift of faith.

All of the above said the EVIDENCE of a Spirit filled life is to bear the fruit of love as described in Gal 5.

Often my posts are written as I am travelling, as was this one, so it is difficult to add in scripture references without a bible to hand. Did you want some scriptures on speaking with tongues c.f. Acts 2, Acts 10, Acts 19, 1 Cor 12, 1 Cor 14.
