The only thing to fear is fear itself.

A lot of the hullabaloo over the US Election seems to be driven by fear.  Fear of the unknown, fear of a black man leading, fear of a Evangelical Christian, fear of inexperience, fear of being too old, fear of a suspected ‘muslim’, fear of losing rights, fear of becoming socialists and so on (you get the picture).

Looking across the pond from England to the US I feel the words of FDR are more relevant than ever… “the only thing to fear is fear itself”.

God is the Soverign, God raises up and God brings down.  And God can direct whoever is selected to lead.  At the end of the day the leader of the USA is likely to share near 98% of beliefs and views with his constituents be he John McCain or Barack Obama. It is not like the choice is for a Robert Mugabe or Pol Pot.

My message to America would simply be that they see the big picture, stop being so fearful and especially to the religious right start to trust God and pray for whoever gets in.  Don’t be bitter if your man is not selected, trust God’s will and pray that His Will be done.

America is not the Heavenly Kingdom.  It will not last forever, corruption will set in and it will fade away, as will all other nations at the glorious appearing of the King of Kings and LORD of Lords.

We have the choice and obligation as Christians to vote against horrible things as homosexuality and abortion which McCain does not hold as his values. We need to fear a possible Antichrist.

Has McCain promised to stop either homosexuality or abortion? Did George Bush stop these? Can politicians be trusted to uphold moral standards?
