Bethel’s Got Talent: Ophelia Smith, Songs of Revelation

I am so proud of one of the sisters within my church that I just had to write a blog about her.

Ophelia Smith, from Bethel United Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic (Manchester) is 61 years old, yet at this ripe old age she’s just accomplished one of her life goals and released an album. The album is entitled: “songs of revelation” and has a very strong Caribbean ‘reggae’ influence, with a subtle modern spin on them. If you get a chance check out her MySpace page http://www.myspace.com/theofficialopheliasmith – yes people at 61 have MySpace pages too!

Here’s a snippet of her bio from her MySpace page:

Ophilia Smith was born in Nevis (WI) and moved to Manchester UK in the 1960s. She went on to marry Vassel Smith in the mid 60s.It was whilst she was pregnant with her first child Matthew she began to aquire the gift of songwriting. Ophelia states that God started to reveal Songs to her in the form of dreams. She went on to write many worship songs and choruses many of which are sang in the churches today. Ophelia is blessed to have raised 6 children who also share the gift of Music (Matthew Nathaniel,Luke”Duke” , Rebekah,Annette, Patricia and Sophie Smith.) Ophelia Holds the office of Missionary in her church (Bethel United, Manchester) and Takes this role seriously. She loves to travel across the country Supporting Other ministries! Ophelia is grateful for this opportunity to finally release a collection of her songs and with the help of her children was able to carry this out. She hopes you will feel as blessed as she does.

A younger more contemporary gospel artist to hail from the same branch of my church is Sam Moore
